Losing start for Denden SC in CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal qualifiers

Eritrean Women’s League champions Denden SC have suffered defeat in their opening match at the on-going CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers 2025.

Denden fell 7-0 to Uganda’s Kampala Queens in a match played on Sunday at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.

The high attacking Ugandan team scored early through Kamiyati Naigaga, before Ethiopian Tourist Lema Tone and Peace Muduwa added more goals to take the match to 3-0 at the interval.

After recess the Denden SC team tried to reorganize with captain Helen Teklu falling deeper, and Fithawit Teklehaimanot trying shots from outside the box, but to know avail.

Naigaga, Tone and Muduwa later scored more goals, while Zaituna Namaganda also got her name on the score sheet. The debut making Denden SC tried to push forward and thought had pulled back a goal, but it was canceled for offside.

Rezene Gebregiorgis Demoz, the Denden SC coach said that although they lost the match, it was a good ground to get the exposure playing against other teams from the Zone.

“We are here to learn and help our players get the experience,” added Demoz.

Denden SC will return to action on September 10th in a Group A match against table leaders Kenya Police Bullets FC at the Nyayo Stadium.

Nine teams in taking part in the Zonal qualifiers and the best team play in the CAF Women’s Champions League to take place later this year.
