Newly appointed coach of the Eritrean national team, Hasham Yakan has said he is confident the team can register positive results in the preliminary round of the AFCON 2027 qualifier against Eswatini.

Eritrea will face Eswatini in the first leg of the qualifiers on March 25th at the Stade d’Honneur Stadium in Morocco.

The second leg will be played six days later in Eswatini with the winner over two legs joining other teams to play in the group qualifiers.

“We started training in Asmara before traveling to Morocco few days ago. The players are responding well and I am confident we have a change to register good results and progress to the next stage of the qualifiers,” added Yakin.

Forward Ali Suleiman who plies his trade in the Egyptian Premier League and was part of Eritrea’s team when they lost to hosts Uganda in the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup will be one of the key players to watch in the two matches against Eswatini.

Team captain Ablelom Teklezghi and Germany based Namrod Embaye will also be the other players expected to add more impact on the team.

More foreign players are expected to join the Red Sea Camels by Monday ahead of the crucial 1st leg encounter on Wednesday.

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will host the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
