Siem-Eyob Abraha happy to earn Eritrea national team call up

England based Siem-Eyob Abraha has expressed his happiness upon being called to the Eritrea national team.

Abraha is among the professional players invited to boost Eritrea’s squad ahead of the preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifiers.

Eritrea will face Eswatini in the first leg of the preliminary round of the qualifiers on March 25th at the Stade d’Honneur Stadium in Morocco.

Abraha who features for English side Sheffield United U-18 team arrived in Morocco on Saturday night ahead of the first leg on Wednesday. “I am very happy to be invited to the national team. I promise to work hard for the team so that we get the positive results,” added the youngster.

Newly appointed coach of the Eritrean national team, Hasham Yakan has continued to get the team in shape as they await to kick start the campaign.

Besides Eritrea, the other teams from the CECAFA Zone that will battle in the preliminary round of the qualifiers include; Ethiopia, Burundi, Djibouti, Somalia and South Sudan. The winners in the preliminary stage will join other teams to battle in the group stage of the qualifiers.

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will host the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
