CECAFA Assembly votes Paulos Weldehaimanot new President
Eritrea’s Paulos Weldehaimanot Andermariam is the new President of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA).
He was elected and endorsed by the CECAFA delegates during the Elective CECAFA General Assembly held at the Djibouti Palace Kempinski on Saturday.
The Assembly that attracted delegates from the 11 Member Association was also graced by representatives from FIFA, CAF, sponsors and Football Presidents from other Zones in Africa.
“I am very happy that the Zone has confidence in me and have elected me to become the new President,” said Weldehaimanot, also President of the Eritrea National Football Federation (ENFF).
He was decalred President after the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) President, Moses Hassim Magogo and Alexandre Muyenge, President of the Burundi Football Federation (BFF) had earlier withdrew their candidature for presidency.
“I declare Weldehaimanot Andemariam the new President of CECAFA,” announced Jean Sseninde, the CECAFA Interim Executive Director.
The other members who take over the new leadership include; Ali Abdi Mohamed (Vice President), Francis Amin Michael and Shema Ngoga Fabrice (Committee Members)
Fezal Ismael Sidat, the 5th Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) speaking on behalf of the President Dr. Patrice Motsepe congratulated the new leadership of CECAFA. “We thank CECAFA for the continuous work they are doing and congratulate them that they will host AFCON 2027 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda,” added Sidat.
